randon’s POV
“Uhhh Alice”, Brandon began, finding his girlfriend in an… interesting position. “Is there any reason you’re doing… whatever you’re doing right now?”
Alice kept crawling around in the swamp, feeling the moss and weeds between her very human fingers and toes.
“Don’t you just love this place? It just feels so comfortable… So homey… brings back memories, you know?”
Brandon paused for a second and tried to figure out why his girlfriend was acting so weird.
She had left camp forty minutes ago, saying she’d be gone for only twenty. Brandon spent the rest of the time walking up and down the paths of Algonquin National Park. The place was huge but she could only go so far without a canoe.
She was easily in the last place he would have ever guessed considering her reaction of having to walk the canoe through these weeds the previous day. Maybe she was tripping on something… licked the wrong frog or whatever.
Alice began to swim on her belly, coming closer and closer to the boyfriend and almost on cue, a frog swam over and crawled up on to Alice’s butt. Brandon giggled at the sight of her now very messy girlfriend and her not giving a fuck attitude.
“Hey, babe”, Brandon smiled, thinking he could scare her.
“Hello to you too”, she responded calmly.
“You know you’re transporting this GIANT frog on your ass right?” He said giggling.
She turned around and smiled.
“Oh, this little girl?” She asked picking it up with her hand and holding it in front of her face. “I managed to… catch her earlier. Guess she likes me huh?”
Alice’s POV
She didn’t even want to camp that weekend, it was Brandon that convinced her. Now she was in an unspeakably horrible position and she didn’t know what to do. She wasn’t exaggerating either, she literally couldn’t speak English now, even if she wanted too.
Sick of spending time doing nothing around a stupid campfire, she decided a walk was the best way to switch things up. Sitting next to the swamp she and Brandon had entered the day earlier. Getting ready to pull out a cigarette and calm her nerves of being in such a daunting wilderness, she noticed a little frog hop on to the beach.
She didn’t consider herself an outdoorsy-type person by any means, but she did have some fond memories of catching frogs at her nana’s cottage when she was younger. Sure that was a beach and this was a swamp, but her target was basically asking for it. Putting down her phone and smokes, she crept up towards the amphibian, waiting for the best time to strike. When it came she dove forwards and grabbed the little guy. It was at that instant that the world turned black…
The next thing she knew she was sitting on a rock on the shore. It seemed giant considering how big she was but after a couple more seconds she realized that she had… changed.
The world was ginormous, and she was small and slimy. Anybody could put 2 and 2 together, especially after seeing what seemed like a giant take her clothes off and begin swimming amongst the moss and lilypads.
She had somehow swapped bodies with a frog… or a toad or whatever. She had no idea what she was but she knew she didn’t like it and she knew she had to change back.
After some test hops and a 30-second swimming lesson she gave herself, she saw another giant enter the picture. One that could be her hero, he was the prince and she was… the frog and she needed rescue. She didn’t remember the fairy tale exactly but she knew she had to get noticed…
Brandon’s POV
“We should keep her!” The new Alice suggested. “It’s like we formed a bond or something. I think we could be friends or…”
“Don’t be stupid Alice, throw the frog back”.
Both the real and fake Alice looked up in surprise.
“We have like 3 more days before we pack up and go home. How do you expect us to take care of that thing for that long? None the less transport it home?”
Fake Alice looked sad like she was saying goodbye to an old friend or something.
“Look… I get it, it’s a cool frog, but do you really think he wants to switch living in the wild, in its natural habitat, to an aquarium in your room?” Brandon asked, thinking he had convinced her.
“Yeah,” Fake Alice said lowering the frog back down on to a lilypad.
Fake Alice moved so she was face to face with the animal.
“I promise you’ll like it better here. Lot’s of sun, lot’s of potential mates…” She said before standing up, the water and moss dropping off her body. “Yeah, I think you’ll love it here as much as I did”.
She walked out of the water where Brandon held out a towel.
“Well, you certainly did enjoy this place! Feel free to explore naked some more if you want. Was kinda a nice surprise to find you here like this”.
“I love the way the water and the air feel on my skin. I may just stay naked this whole trip!” Fake Alice said as she began to hop and skip down the trail.
Brandon looked back for just a second at the frog, wondering why she was so convinced it was a girl… He was a curious mind though, so he shook it off and followed his girl back to camp.
